About

Prof. Hakki M. Karakas (MD, MBA) is a key opinion leader on high performance services, strategic structuring, digitalization, advanced imaging technologies, public-private partnerships, quality systems and radiation safety in the healthcare industry. He is the director of public medical imaging services of Istanbul. Under his authority half percent of world’s radiological studies are being performed (24 M+ in 68 centers).

He is a full professor of radiology, a very experienced interventionalist and translational cognitive neuroscientist with 600+ articles/papers in the field of science and technology (h-index: 28), more than 20 awards, including the European Society of Neuroradiology Award for his contribution to the development of EEG/ERP-MRI technology. He ranked 21st in Turkey and 105th in Europe in radiology according to AD Citation Index. He has in-depth expertise on advanced ultrasound applications -including fusion imaging, elastography and slow motion imaging, on advanced fMRI and EEG applications, on breast diagnosis and interventions and on RF/MW/laser ablations. He studied medicine, radiology and neurology at Hacettepe, Çukurova, MoH-Turkey and Bonn universities; He received his executive MBA education with major in marketing at Istanbul Technical University.

During his career, he held academic and managerial positions in many institutions. He currently serves as a strategic, technical and scientific consultant to many national, foreign and global companies, institutions and governments. It carries out projects with the International Atomic Energy Agency and foreign governments for the transformation of radiological, nuclear and radiotherapeutic health services in Central Europe, the Middle East and South Asia. Within the scope of the execution of public health services in Turkey, he led many infrastructure, procurement projects and operations at the regional and national level and acted as a coordinator and acted as contact officer at the Islamic Development Bank for university infrastructute projects. The total cost of the projects he completed in this context is over half a billion dollars.

Prof. Karakaş carried out intensive initiatives and projects on digitalization of healthcare services since 2010, and led the creation and development of the national telemedicine network. In this context, he enabled the establishment of several medical IT companies. He is currently working on the creation of a national ecosystem that will take a global role in the artificial intelligence based digital transformation of healthcare services.
